Book Week

We are celebrating Book Week at St Albans School in Week Five (August 26-30). This is a fantastic week where we will celebrate books, authors, illustrators, reading and the wonderful world of literacy.
On Monday 26 August we are having a Book Character Parade.
On this day we ask the children to come along to school dressed as a book character
please also bring along a copy of the book the character is from if at all possible. We will be parading costumes at 9.15am on this day parents are welcome to stay and watch this fun event. We have heaps of prizes that have been donated by Paper Plus Merivale.
We will also be running a Book Fair over the week. Each class will walk through the Book Fair and the children will bring home a wish list of the books they might like perhaps they could even do some jobs around home to earn some pocket money to spend at the Book Fair.
Parents are encouraged to visit the Book Fair during the week it will be open from 8.30-9.15am and 2.30-3.15pm each day. EFTPOS is available at the office. This is a great way to stock up on books and help our school at the same time we are donated a percentage of all sales to spend on library books for our school.
We have a lot of great competitions planned for over the week too the children will find out more about these next week. Classes will celebrate Book Week in the way that suits them best.
We really appreciate your support.

Week 4

This week is our “Hopes and Dreams’ walk around the city.  We are leaving by bus straight after the 9am bell.  Please make sure you are at school on time!  We will be returning to school in time for lunch.  Make sure you have a jacket and sensible walking shoes on. Lets hope the weather is kind to us! This week we are also lucky to have a performance from the Court Theatre on Monday afternoon.  Kapa Haka practices will continue throughout the week.  Book Week is next week, a book parade is planned for Monday, so you may want to start thinking about a book character that you can come dressed as.

Team 20’s Wishes

Our reading and writing focus for the first half of the term is poetry.  Read the cool poem below that some of us wrote in class today.

Team 20’s Wishes

I wish…  that we all had gravity boots, so we can discover outer space. Will H
I wish…  that everybody had enough money for all the essentials in life. Rosie
I wish…  that we will have no war, so that no more people have to die. Rosie
I wish…  I could soar through the air like a bird in the sky. Thesara
I wish…  my family had a bigger house, so we could have a pet. Phoenix
I wish… my school was made out of pancakes, so I could eat it. Liam
I wish… Mother Nature wasn’t so grumpy and we have no more earthquakes.       Jake/Ben
I wish… I can meet my great, great, great grandma because she looked so pretty in a photo.    Niamh B
I wish… my dog could come inside so he won’t have to sleep in the rain and in the cold.       Niamh M
I wish… my class would be quiet because they are really noisy! Phoenix
I wish… I could defy gravity like Barnaby Brockett. Isaac
I wish… that I can have a chocolate castle all to myself.  Palm

Robot Making

On Friday we helped our little buddies create their robots.  We had lots of fun!

Week 2

We had a wonderful time on Friday helping our little buddies construct their “robots”.  Check out the blog for some photos.  This week will continue to be a busy week with Kapa Haka practices. Their will be no times tables/basic facts focus this week as you should all be preparing for the Maths-a-thon next week.  Many children are low on school supplies – pencils, red pens, glue sticks and rulers, these can be purchased from the school office.
Have a good week Trish and Ros
