Hopes and Dreams Flag Making Workshop

Today we were lucky enough to have Kate and Lucy visit from the Christchurch Art Gallery.  We all painted our own flag with a hope or dream on it for ourselves or Christchurch.  These are all going to be joined together with 3000 other Christchurch childrens' and displayed outside the Christchurch City Council building during the Christchurch Arts Festival.  
We think it is going to look amazing and can't wait to see it up!

Week 1 Term 3

Welcome back to Term 3!  We can’t believe that we are already halfway through the school year!  We hope you all managed to have some fun holiday time and made the most of the glorious winter weather. We have a busy term ahead of us with many of your children involved in the Kapa Haka Group preparing for the Cultural Festival Performance in Week 5.  We also have an Arts Festival Workshop on Tuesday, Book Week approaching and many other exciting learning opportunities throughout the term.

Lets make this another fantastic term by making sure we come to school organized, refreshed, with all our correct equipment and plenty of enthusiasm!  Trish and Ros.

Please make sure you complete your brainstorm for the Arts Festival workshop on the first Tuesday after the holidays. You need to bring it to school on the FIRST day back!

Winter Tree Collages

Winter Collage Trees

We created these pictures by dividing our page into 5 or 6 curved sections.  We then decided which colour each section would be and where the sky would start.  We then ripped paper from magazines into small pieces and glued them on to our paper to create the background.

For our trees we went outside and looked at the shapes and forms of winter trees.  We talked about perspective and how trees far away are smaller and how the horizon rises.

We practiced sketching some trees.  We then squeezed black paint out of a small bottle onto our background.

We love our trees and hope you enjoy looking at them too!
