WEEK 3

This is our swimming week at Aquagym.  Please make sure that you are all taking responsibility for taking your swimming togs and towel out of your swim bag each day and drying them, ready for the next day.
We are enjoying listening to each others presentations of “personality bags”.

Reading
There is the expectation that children will be reading at home everyday – some reading groups will be bringing home specific reading books to read to parents.  All children will hopefully be reading their own library book or home book.

Spelling Words
Spelling words are made up from essential spelling lists and/or words based on a specific spelling rule.  They are given these words each Monday and are recorded in their notebooks.
They are to be practised each night at home and we will check them on Friday.

Maths
Each week children are given a basic facts or times tables to focus on.  They are tested on a Friday in a quick test of 20 in a random order.  This week’s basic facts are: basic facts to 20 eg: 16+4,12-4

Reminders:
A reminder that we are swimming every day this week!

Don’t forget to book your goal setting interview, either online via the school website or if you don’t internet access the school office has one available.

Remember to check out our class blog, access through the school website or teamtwenty2013.blogspot.com

We would love to stock up on newspapers and old magazines for art activities.

Our Personality Bags!

We have had fun sharing our bags full of things "about us".  Here are some photos of us with our special things.

WELCOME TO TEAM 20 2013

Welcome to Term 1.  We have 25 amazing children in our class this year, all of who come highly recommended from last year’s Year 3 teachers!
We are going to have a fantastic year together full of fun and exciting learning experiences and challenges!
Rosina Tippen will be teaching on Monday, Tuesday and Fridays and Trish Bunting is teaching Wednesdays and Thursdays.
We are looking forward to getting to know both yourselves and your children. 2013 is going to be a fabulous year!

Some Key dates for Term 1 you may wish to add to your calendar are:
Middle Syndicate Aqua Gym Swimming Lessons – 18th - 22nd February
Y4-6 Swimming Sports at Jellie Park Pool – 4th March
Goal Setting Interviews – Tuesday 5th March,  Wed 6th March
Big Day Out at Spencer Park – Thursday 11th April

Our first Inquiry focus for the year is ‘ Learning to Learn’.
In Literacy, we will be focusing on both Transactional (diary and recount writing) and Narrative ( creative) writing this term.
Our Reading programme is designed to scaffold and support the learning of each individual student.  This term we will be using a specific programme designed to build upon the children’s reading skills.
In Maths, this year the children will continue to be involved in an interchange programme across our Year 4 team. This will bestarting in Week 4 of this term..  This will enable us to teach more specifically to individuals’ Numeracy stage and ability.

Homework expectations: The children will have weekly spelling, tables and reading.  They will be given these on a Monday to be learnt for testing on the Friday.
Reading: Is the most important task to do every night at home, a reading book for the week will be used at school and the children are free to take this home and share it with you but our preference would be your child’s personal choice of reading material. The idea is that this is the time to practise fluent reading and that it should be fun.  As adults we choose to read easy material for our recreational reading and therefore this is the habit we are seeking to create.
It is time to practise using funny, read aloud voices and expression and talk about what is happening in the story.

Maths: Basic facts or a timetable will be sent home each week and your help in assisting your child to commit these to memory so they are able to recall them almost immediately is a great advantage to their maths learning in the classroom.

Year 4 Camp: Living Springs Term 4: This is a very exciting rewarding experience for our children. We will not be undertaking any school wide fundraising for camps this year, so to make budgeting as easy as possible for families we will let you know the cost of this as soon as possible. It is estimated to cost you $120.

Housekeeping:
·      Term 1- is a hat wearing term so please help your child to ensure they have one at school to wear.
·      Extra Notices: will be available on the wall in the foyer of the classroom.  Feel free to check to see that you have received every thing, we will also include these on our class blog: teamtwenty2013.blogspot.com
·      Our Classroom Timetable: will soon be on displayed here so that you can find us if you need us when we are not in the room.

Thank you to those parents who have introduced themselves already.  We really appreciate your interest in your child’s education and look forward to meeting you all during the next few weeks.
Please feel free to contact us at school should you have any concerns or questions.

Kind Regards
 Trish Bunting and Rosina Tippen
